iCarnegie's Management Team and Advisors

iCarnegie is led by an experienced, renowned team of computer science, academic and business professionals.

Dr. Allan Fisher, President, CEO, and co-Founder
Allan Fisher is the co-founder, President and CEO of iCarnegie, Inc. Dr. Fisher co-founded the company as Carnegie Technology Education (CTE) in 1998 and served as its President and CEO until CTE's spin-off to iCarnegie. Prior to assuming the leadership of iCarnegie, Dr. Fisher was Associate Dean of Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science since its founding in 1988. As one of the creators of Carnegie Mellon's undergraduate Computer Science degree, he led the design, delivery and support of the nation's most innovative and progressive undergraduate computer science program. Beginning with a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Dr. Fisher has worked actively to increase the involvement of women and minorities in Computer Science. This work resulted in an increase from 7% to 42% in the proportion of women among students entering the undergraduate CS program at Carnegie Mellon. A related project has taught high school teachers how to recruit and retain a diverse group of students. He is the co-author of "Unlocking the Clubhouse: Women in Computing", published by MIT Press. iCarnegie continues Dr. Fisher's commitment to diversity in the computing profession. Dr. Fisher was educated at Princeton University, the University of Cambridge, and Carnegie Mellon. He is an expert in high-performance computer and network architectures and has published numerous scholarly papers in computer science and computer science education.

Dr. Philip Lehman, Senior Vice President
Philip Lehman joined iCarnegie in 2003 as Senior Vice President. Dr. Lehman brings extensive executive management and P&L experience in high-growth, early- and medium-stage software and Internet businesses. Prior to iCarnegie he served, respectively, as SVP for Business Development and Chief Operating Officer for two high-technology startups (for one of which he helped lead its growth and preparation for a completed acquisition). Previously, he was a "Day One" (1989) executive and member of the executive management team at Transarc Corporation (now part of IBM), and helped lead the growth of an $80+ million business. At Transarc, Dr. Lehman founded and was Vice President for the Services business, as well as Services Executive for IBM Software Group Transaction Systems, with P&L and general management responsibility. He grew the combined organization from inception to over 120 employees working on five continents. Earlier at Transarc, he served as the first Director of Marketing and Sales, managing sales and deployments at more than 400 sites worldwide. Dr. Lehman was educated at Yale University and Carnegie Mellon University. He currently serves on the Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science Dean's Advisory Board and chairs its Alumni Advisory Board.

Dr. Michael Horowitz, Vice President for Technology
Michael Horowitz has served as Vice President for Technology for iCarnegie and CTE since 2000. He is responsible both for iCarnegie's technology development efforts and for the operation of its day-to-day internal and external computing services. Prior to joining iCarnegie, Dr. Horowitz was Vice President of Technology for Claritech Corporation, where he was primarily responsible for the design, architecture and implementation of the CLARIT API toolkit. Previously, he led a project at the Information Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon University, which involved the development of user interface architectures to help users manage large amounts of information over time. He also held the position of Chief Scientist at Formative Technologies, Inc., where he set the policy for the software development process and developed new technologies, including an interpreted object-oriented command language, a hypertext-based online help system and integrated raster-vector editing. Since receiving his doctorate in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University, Dr. Horowitz's research interests have included the design and implementation of information management systems; programming language design and the effects of object-oriented features; large system specification and analysis; and software engineering.
