iCarnegie Adds New Higher Education Partners in Japan, Mexico, Thailand, Philippines, and Greece for Training World-Class Software Development Professionals
November 3, 2003 - PITTSBURGH, PA - iCarnegie, Inc., an educational affiliate of Carnegie Mellon University and provider of world-class software development curriculum, announced the addition of new international partners who will offer iCarnegie courses to students and professionals worldwide. Universidad Del Valle de Mexico, Temple University of Japan, AMA Education System in the Philippines, Rangsit University of Thailand, and INFOGROUP Consulting S.A. in Greece join a global community of partner schools, training institutions, and iCarnegie students in 15 countries that together are increasing the number of workforce-ready, highly skilled professionals in computing and software development. The new partners began welcoming their first iCarnegie students this fall.
In addition, existing partner The Instituto Technologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (TEC de Monterrey) in Mexico has renewed and extended its partnership with iCarnegie.
“Through our growing list of international partners, record numbers of students and professionals are being trained in modern software development practices and technologies, using iCarnegie curriculum developed in partnership with Carnegie Mellon faculty,” said Dr. Allan Fisher, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of iCarnegie. “Our partners find that by offering iCarnegie courses, they gain a competitive advantage in producing highly skilled, well-educated IT professionals that meet the demands of today's employers.”
New Partners and iCarnegie:
- Universidad Del Valle de México (UVM) - UVM is a key member of the Sylvan International Universities network, with very high academic standards and one of the largest higher learning institutions in Mexico, teaching more than 42,000 students at 16 campuses in several cities in the country. iCarnegie's curriculum will be added to UVM's course offerings in January 2004 for undergraduate degrees, working adult programs, and continuous education special courses.
- Temple University of Japan (TUJ) - TUJ was established in 1982 in Tokyo and is the oldest and largest foreign university in Japan. TUJ began offering the iCarnegie courses and certification programs in September 2003 through the Temple IT Program in Continuing Education.
- AMA Education System - AMA is the largest IT-based education provider in Asia, with 42 campuses in the Philippines and one in Bahrain. In August, AMA trainers became certified to begin teaching iCarnegie's 10 courses across all campuses, as part of several bachelor degree majors. Fall 2003 semester course enrollments are estimated at 20,000.
- Rangsit University, Thailand (RSU) - RSU is a private institution of higher education creating graduates in science, technology, design and management, including independent professions for career development. iCarnegie courses are now offered at RSU for two programs: Computer Programming and Software Engineering.
- INFOGROUP Consulting S.A. - INFOGROUP, founded in Greece in 1984, is one of the leading Greek consultancy companies working closely with the public and private sector. As a training partner of the iCarnegie curriculum, INFOGROUP will begin to offer courses in November 2003 to help working professionals advance their computing and software development skills.
Existing Partner Extension
- TEC de Monterrey - As one of the first iCarnegie curriculum partners, TEC de Monterrey in northeastern Mexico has delivered more than 13,000 iCarnegie course enrollments and certified 200 instructors since the partnership was formed. TEC de Monterrey, established in 1943 and today enrolls 95,000 full-time students, is internationally renowned for academic excellence. Its partnership renewal and continued commitment to the iCarnegie and Carnegie Mellon-designed curriculum represents a strong partnership between these world-leading computing education institutions.
The iCarnegie curriculum is developed by Carnegie Mellon computer science educators and iCarnegie course design experts, with advice from international industry and software leaders. More than just “distance learning,” the curriculum is delivered in a way that leverages the strengths of iCarnegie and its partners: traditional classroom instruction is conducted by certified faculty at the partner schools, while iCarnegie develops and maintains course content, assignments, tests and exams, and provides ongoing support via a secure web-based system accessed by teachers and students.
The iCarnegie curriculum includes 10 courses and offers two levels of certification: Computer Programming and Software Systems Development.
